Orange Regional Gallery

About the Gallery

Orange Regional Gallery is a centre for art in the Central West of New South Wales, Australia. Artists are at the centre of everything we do. We support artists to produce new and innovative works, and assist our audiences to have a meaningful connection to the art they produce. Alongside our Exhibition and Education Programs, we care for an established Collection of modern and contemporary art from Australia and abroad. Since 2011, the Gallery has been a partner in the Orange Arts + Health Strategy, a ground breaking initiative which provides access to original works from the permanent collection for staff and visitors at Orange Health Service.

Collection Strengths

Orange Regional Gallery was founded on a major donation by Mary Turner of 34 paintings by iconic Australian artists in 1983.Our growing permanent Collection includes over 1500 works of Australian art from the 1920’s to present. Works enter the collection in a variety of ways including donations, Cultural Gifts, purchases and bequests. Support from the Friends of Orange Regional Gallery, and Orange Regional Arts Foundation has been integral to the growth of the Collection.

Programming Strengths

We offer a range of creative education programs linked to our exhibitions and collections. From tailored school visits and holiday workshops for children to talks, tours, special events and art-making workshops for adults—the Gallery is a place for learning, at any age.

Exhibition Spaces

Thanks to funding from the NSW Government’s Regional Cultural Fund and Orange City Council construction commenced in the second half of 2020 and is due for completion in spring 2021. Orange Regional Gallery has recently undertaken an extensive redevelopment. The project includes a new 270 square metre contemporary gallery with ground-breaking lighting design, a 75 seat gallery theatre, a new state-of-the art storage and conservation area and refurbishments to existing Gallery spaces.
