About the Gallery

The New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) is a living museum of national significance located in Armidale in the heart of the New England North West region of New South Wales. NERAM is a leading cultural and arts tourism destination in regional Australia, and home to one of the nation’s most significant art collections outside the capital cities, holding a collection of over 5,000 works of historical, modern and contemporary art. NERAM presents a dynamic program of exhibitions, educational and public events.

Collection Strengths

Always at the heart of NERAM’s purpose and program is the responsibility and privilege to care for and facilitate access to our outstanding collections. NERAM is home to over 5,000 works of art including two of the most important and extensive collections of Australian art in regional Australia, the Howard Hinton and the Chandler Coventry Collections. Along with the NERAM Collection, they offer a comprehensive overview of Australian art history unmatched in regional Australia.

These collections include significant works by Australian and international artists such as Streeton, Roberts, Gruner, Preston, Whiteley, Gleeson, Tuckson and Christo, to name just a few.

Programming Strengths

NERAM produces a dynamic exhibition program that includes interpretive exhibitions curated from our exceptional collections, touring exhibitions, special projects and local artist highlights as well an extensive program of events, workshops, talks and activities. NERAM Creative Learning provides life-long education with an emphasis on hands on learning and cultural engagement across all age groups, for the art curious, school student, through to established artists.

Exhibition Spaces

NERAM is home to six gallery spaces, the Museum of Printing, The Packsaddle Artist Studio and Residence, the NERAM shop and NERAM café and performance courtyard.
