About the Gallery

Located in the heart of Manly Cove on Sydney Harbour, MAG&M presents innovative, distinctive and creative cultural programs alongside its extensive collections of Australian visual art , ceramics and beach ephemera. Established in 1930, MAG&M is the oldest metropolitan regional gallery in NSW and the centre for the visual arts on the Northern Beaches.

Collection Strengths

The MAG&M Collection includes over 6,800 items, with 400+ ceramics, 1,100 Australian watercolours, prints, etchings, drawings and paintings and over 1,300 items of swimwear and beach ephemera.

Curated over nine decades, the MAG&M Collection has grown through the generosity of significant donors including: MAG&M Society, the Theo Batten, Roger Pietri and Lady Askin Bequests and artists Margaret Preston, Thea Proctor, Will Ashton, Lloyd Rees, Joshua Yeldham, Salvatore Zofrea and MAG&M’s founder Antonio Dattilo-Rubbo. Programming Strengths

MAG&M delivers a vibrant and inclusive space with diverse programming, including workshops, talks, classes, performances and activities for all ages to be creative, to be curious and to deepen their understanding about art, culture and heritage. There is a diversity of ideas, voices and perspectives in programming.

MAG&M collaborates with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, curators and partners to create exhibitions and audience engagement programs to increase the community’s understanding of the richness and diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, culture and heritage. Collection exhibitions are developed and presented annually.
