Hazelhurst Arts Centre

About the Gallery

Hazelhurst Arts Centre is a focal point for visual arts and culture in southern Sydney. With more than 200,000 visitors annually, it is a popular and vibrant community destination, as well as a cultural hub for visitors from further afield. The Centre sits amid 1.4 hectares of family-friendly gardens. Hazelhurst presents major exhibitions and projects in its Main Gallery and Broadhurst Gallery, alongside projects in the gardens, while offering day and evening art classes in its six art studios. The restored 1946 home of benefactors Ben and Hazel Broadhurst is used for the Artist in Residence program with a dedicated studio and accommodation.

An active and engaging public program includes education programs for children, Art Engage for people with a disability, Auslan tours, free artmaking activities and a series of At Night and Fest Day events. Young people are a continued focus with Hazelhurst’s Youth Ambassadors program.

Programming Strengths

Hazelhurst Arts Centre’s main gallery presents a diverse program of contemporary and historical Australian art with both self-curated, artist initiated and touring exhibitions. The smaller Broadhurst Gallery showcases the work of local and regional artists while the gardens present significant solo exhibitions. In addition to projects presented at the Centre, Hazelhurst also tours exhibitions to regional NSW and galleries throughout Australia and has a partnership program with Moran Aged Care in Sylvania to develop and present exhibitions of work by southern Sydney artists for residents, visitors and the general public.

Exhibition Spaces

Three main exhibitions spaces at Hazelhurst Arts Centre include the Main Gallery: 450 square metres and 170 running meters; the smaller Broadhurst Gallery located adjacent to Hazelhurst’s art studios: 35 running meters; Hazelhurst Gardens: 1.4 hectares.
